Our Break Up Story | The Moving-On
Breaking Up with Sugar for Good
Our family is probably a lot like yours. For years, we developed unhealthy snacking habits, reaching for sweets—cookies, pastries, candy, desserts—instead of fruits, vegetables, nuts, or real, whole foods. While we aspired to be healthier, we let unhealthy snack habits compromise our goals.
But every time we reached for a “healthy” snack or protein bar, we ran into the same problems:
- The good-tasting ones were loaded with added sugar.
- The truly healthy ones tasted awful, were packed with processed protein isolates, or were engineered to sit on shelves for months.
There had to be a better way. Could we create a snack that actually balanced health and taste?
How Breakup with Cake Began
The journey started in the family kitchen. A few years ago, Carly and Jordan’s sister and brother-in-law, Danielle and Leib, began experimenting with snack recipes and selling them at local farmers’ markets. The response was overwhelmingly positive, but at the time, the brand hadn’t fully taken shape.
A few years later, they approached us to help bring the idea to life on a bigger scale. Together, we refined the recipes and originally launched them as a cake pop-style snack—not actual cake, but a snack bar on a stick.
It gained early traction, but we quickly realized:
- It wasn’t the best format for scaling.
- The name caused confusion—people thought it was actual cake or only for kids.
So, we went back to the drawing board. After months of reworking the concept, we had a breakthrough:
✨A delicious, clean-label snack bar made with real, whole ingredients, 0 added sugars, and incredible taste.
Along the way, our sister and brother-in-law moved on to new ventures, and today, Carly and Jordan, along with Carly’s father Don—are carrying the brand forward.
What We Believe
Through every step, one thing has remained the same:
✔ A commitment to real, whole ingredients.
✔ A belief that healthy snacks should actually taste delicious.
✔ A mission to help people move away from unhealthy relationships with snacks.
Because let’s face it—some of us have a sweet tooth. We want to be healthy, but we also want to indulge and actually enjoy what we’re eating. That’s exactly why we created Breakup with Cake.
With our snack bars, you can “have your cake and eat it too”—just not with real cake! 🍰 Instead, we help you end your toxic relationship with sugary snacks and start fresh with a snack that actually respects you back.
So, are you ready to break up with added sugar for good?
With Respect (and no added sugar),
- Carly, Don, & Jordan
